How I went from broke dropout to $50K a month to write tweets

My parents struggled with crack addiction.

I used to live in a motorhome as a kid.

I was a college dropout.

Here’s how I overcame it all and hit $30,000-$50,000 months by writing tweets:

Growing up, I was the kid who was lower class.

My father wasn’t in my life because of his crack addiction and my mother worked 2 jobs to support me.

I didn’t have any self-confidence or direction in my life.

I knew I had potential, but didn’t know how to channel it.

I was aimless until the age of 22.

From ages 16-22 I bounced from job to job.

• Electrician

• Server

• Medic

• Security

I looked at the people working these jobs for years.

Lotta them looked dead inside, filled with regret.

If I didn’t make a change, this was my future.

On December 4th, 2020, I knew there was no going back.

I was on the brink of depression and feeling hopeless for my future as a 22-year-old.

I quit my job as a Domino’s delivery driver and dropped out of my 2nd year of college.

“Fuck it, I’ll make it work I told myself.”

For the past 2 years up to this point, I tried many side hustles:

• iPhone repair + flipping

• Selling on eBay

• Amazon FBA

• Blogging

I failed at all of them because I couldn’t stay interested and I’d quit.

But everything changed September 24th, 2020…

I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life at 22, so I was in my 2nd year of college at the time to become a high school English and psychology teacher.

One day I was scrolling Twitter and came across something I never expected.

A Twitter growth course promising to show you how to grow your Twitter account and make money online.

It was $40, so I figured, “Screw it, what do I have to lose?”

I wish it was sunshine and rainbows, but it didn’t turn out how you think:

My first 3 months trying to grow on Twitter:

• I got ratio’d for making a polarizing take

• I spent hours writing every day, only to watch my content flop

• I only grew to 750 followers

It was demoralizing.

But I knew if I didn’t make this work, I’d never make anything work.

But then I met someone.

Around the 3 month mark on my Twitter journey I came across a copywriter who grew to 1000 followers in 30 days.

“How tf is this dude growing so fast?” I asked myself.

I got chatting with him in the DMs and hopped on a call.

That conversation changed my entire trajectory…

He explained he was in my position a year ago.

Tweeting basic self-improvement takes that the typical growth guides taught.

…and failing to grow.

So, he gave up, started studying copywriting, and came back with a new approach to Twitter that exploded his account:

With his new strategy, he was teaching others the lessons he learned from copywriting.

Breaking it down into simple pieces of actionable advice.

And surprise surprise, he grew his Twitter.

He wasn’t tweeting stuff that sounded nice, he was sharing valuable information.

And that’s when it clicked for me…

To be valued, I need to give value first.

Actionable advice that either:

• Makes people money

• Improves their relationships

• Improves their health

And even though I had 12 years of weightlifting experience, I chose a different niche:

Writing.

It was my best subject in school and interested me because:

If you can write, you can think.

If you can think, you can persuade.

If you can persuade, you can make a change.

So, I made the biggest decision of my life…

December 4th, 2020, I made the biggest bet of my life.

I didn’t have a plan.

I restarted my Twitter account to 0.

I dropped outta college and quit my job.

All to focus on growing my Twitter account and make money from writing online.

I knew if I didn’t make this work, I’d be hopeless.

So I rebranded as a writer, became obsessed with studying writing, and tweeted like crazy.

And whereas before I only grew to 750 followers in 3 months…

This time I grew to 1000 followers in 40 days.

I was growing my account steadily.

I was on to something.

But there was 1 problem.

I now knew how to grow my account, but I didn’t know how to monetize it.

I was procrastinating with creating content and was scared to take action with business.

There was so much information out there, I didn’t know what to do.

And the stuff I did, I questioned whether it was right.

Thankfully, this 1 thing got my ass in gear:

I used 75% of my savings to hire a mentor, @thedankoe.

It was risky, but it was one of the best decisions of my life.

Hiring a mentor:

• Forced me to stop procrastinating

• Helped me overcome self-doubt

• Gave me a clear roadmap

And the next 6 months transformed my life…

I took the business principles I learned from Dan and combined it with my writing ability.

And in November 2021, I launched my ghostwriting business.

And truthfully, I was scared.

Scared to send DMs

Scared to get on sales calls.

Scared to fulfill for clients.

I doubted myself the whole time.

But my fear of regret was stronger than my fear of failure.

Within 1 month of launching my ghostwriting business:

I landed my 1st client for $3,000 a month.

I landed my 2nd client for $5,000 a month.

I landed my 3rd client for $3,000 a month.

$11,000 a month without a degree and only 5,000 followers.

It seemed surreal.

But months that followed got even crazier:

I faced many setbacks along the way:

• I had a failed partnership because we had too similar of skills

• I lost a couple clients because I couldn’t fulfill for their niche

• I felt major imposter syndrome and self-doubt my whole journey

• Was on the brink of burnout some days

• I gave up most of my social life

But despite all these setbacks…

• My ghostwriting business scaled up to $50,000 in a month within 8 months

• I consistently got my clients going viral

• I blew my account up to 470,000 followers across all socials within 2 years

I finally reached the point where I felt free.

I didn’t have to work for bosses I didn’t respect.

I was in control of where I lived and how I spent my time.

I travelled to places like Dubai, Texas, Colombia, and Panama.
