The sexy blonde with diarrhea

This is gonna be an explosive email...

It’s 7:15 am.

The Arizona sunshine illuminates through the tall glass room.

I welcome the toasty smell of my Americano bean juice like a warm hug from a familiar friend.

Across from the obnoxiously long 15ft white table sits my hot date for the morning.

My 6ft (and semi-autistic) best friend, Nick Verge.

Nick is the best copywriter I know.

And at the start of 2024, I was living with him for 3 months. I was also paying him $5K a month for copywriting/marketing mentorship.

But on this particular morning?

Nick said something profound that I’ll never forget…

“Everyone has diarrhea.”

“Dakota, everyone has diarrhea at some point. That hot blonde in the sexy red dress? Yeah, she has explosive diarrhea. Imagine her on the toilet shitting her brains out.”

At first, I almost spit out my coffee from laughing.

Then I stare at Nick blankly, realizing he’s making a serious point…

Nick wasn't just being crude. He was sharing a powerful truth about success that most "gurus" never tell you.

See, when you're scrolling social media, watching these "experts" with their perfect feeds and polished lifestyle, it's easy to feel like you're the only one struggling.

  • Like you're the only one doubting if you have what it takes.

  • Like you're the only one getting ghosted after sending outreach messages.

  • Like you're the only one staring at a blank page wondering "WTF do I write for this client?"

But here's the truth:

Those same "experts" with their Ferrari selfies and screenshots of $50K months?

They have diarrhea too.

They all have failed pitches.

They all have clients who've fired them.

They all have moments of crippling self-doubt.

They all have days where they feel like complete frauds.

(To be fair, most gurus flexing supercars are complete frauds).

But they never show you their struggles.

And that's why so many aspiring entrepreneurs quit before they even get started.

They compare their messy behind-the-scenes to someone’s polished Instagram feed.

The 1 Difference Between Success and Failure

I've helped 200+ people start and scale their ghostwriting businesses.

And you know what separates the ones who succeed from those who don't?

It's not talent.

It's not luck.

It's not IQ.

It's the willingness to keep going even when you feel like crap (literally and figuratively).

  • To post your own content when no one's engaging.

  • To send that outreach message when you're terrified of rejection.

  • To get on that sales call even when imposter syndrome is screaming in your ear.

Whether you’re an aspiring ghostwriter or feet pic dealer…

Success isn't about being perfect.

It's about being persistent.

Yes, I Have Diarrhea Too

Growing up, I was the fat, socially anxious, momma’s boy.

I didn’t have a father around to guide me and toughen me up.

And to be honest, I didn’t like myself.

Nearly every day, I played narratives in my head:

  • “You’re not good enough.”

  • “Nobody likes you.”

  • “You’re a loser.”

Now, thankfully, from the ages of 12-23, I did on a lot of work on myself.

I got jacked. I overcame my social anxiety. I obsessively self-educated.

But when I started posting content and building my ghostwriting business?

Those ol’ demons came roaring back.

Every time I hit publish, a voice whispered: "Who do you think you are?"

The first time I got on a sales call with a potential $3K/month client?

I was sweating so much you'd think I just ran a marathon in Death Valley.

But here's the thing:

The people who "make it" aren't the ones who don't feel fear.

They feel the fear and do it anyway.

  • They're the ones who get rejected 9 times but still send that 10th outreach message.

  • They're the ones who post content for months to crickets before finally breaking through.

  • They're the ones who have explosive diarrhea before the sales call and still show up.

And you know what?

The more I took action, the quieter those voices got.

So the next time you feel bad because you’re seeing everyone flaunt their success online…

Remember Nick's infinite wisdom:

"Everyone has diarrhea."

Even the ghostwriters making $50K/month. Even the LinkedIn influencers with 100K followers. And yes, even me.

The difference is, some of us just keep showing up.

Your Canadian friend.

Personal Update

I had a great convo with my friend over dinner the other night.

Despite making ~$20K USD last month, he told me how he felt dissatisfied.

I reminded him he just started in the online business space 1.5 years ago.

That’s some people’s yearly salary in a single month…

It reminded me that the only person you should compare yourself to is who you used to be.

Progress is progress.
