The 4:30am gurus scammed me
It’s 4:30am.
My phone lights up the pitch black room.
The alarm goes off (and so does my PTSD).
Because it means it’s that time again…
“Fuuuuuuuu….” I groan as I roll over to turn the alarm off.
My blankets?
Feeling like a warm hug from a friend who’s shielding me from the cool summer morning.
But once again, I have to tell that “friend” to f*ck off.
Because all I have is 60 minutes.
60 minutes until I’m drenched in sweat and being yelled at by a 45 y/o man.
Back in 2016, I was playing American high school football.
I wasn’t the fastest player.
I wasn’t the smartest player.
I wasn’t the strongest player.
Hell, I barely knew the rules of football.
But I thought if I just worked harder than everyone…
If I just showed up more than everyone…
I’d have a shot at playing at a semi-professional level.
So when my football coach hosted early morning practice a few times a week, I got my ass in gear and went.
And you know what?
I got better. A lot better.
I had a starting position on offense and defense (running back and linebacker).
I became one of the captains of the football team.
I got awarded MVP for the season.
That should’ve been my underdog movie moment.
*Cue the inspirational music*
The Moment Of Truth
I traveled to Vancouver for a football training camp at the end of the 2016 football season.
It was a big deal because there would be football scouts there.
Top players from all over the province traveled down to it.
This was my big moment.
My chance to prove that all those early mornings and hard work would pay off…
But after the 1st day, it became glaringly obvious to me:
I was good…
But the other players were on a different level.
So, yeah, I was the guy who peaked in high school lol.
Your Inner-Bitch Is Your Enemy
Now, sure, I didn’t walk away with a scholarship.
But I walked away with something better.
Discipline.
I pushed myself past my limits.
I worked hard when I didn’t feel like it.
I told my inner-voice to stfu when the alarm went off at 4:30am.
You know the voice.
The one whispering in your ear when you want to post online…
…when you want to start that business…
…when you want to bet on yourself.
That voice is your inner-bitch.
And if you don’t kill it, it’ll kill your dreams.
Sure, it’ll keep you in your comfort zone.
But that inner-voice will also make you put off your dreams for tomorrow…
Then tomorrow turns into next week…
Next week turns into next month…
Until you find yourself writing down the same New Year’s resolution as last year.
You Don’t Need To Be The Best
I wasn’t the best writer when I scaled to $50K/month with ghostwriting.
Neither was my client Mike who scaled to $11K/month with ghostwriting.

Neither was my client Caleb when he landed his first $3,000 ghostwriting client.

Neither was my client Nicole when she landed her first 5-figure client.

Now, unlike the hustle gurus, they didn’t need to wake up at 4:30am to be successful…
But they all had the discipline to show up when they didn’t feel like it.
And more importantly:
They had the courage to take a bet on themselves and build a business.
I believe in ya too.
Much love and happy Friday.
Your Canadian friend,
Dakota “Peaked In High School” Robertson
P.S.
I sure in the hell can’t coach you in football.
But I can coach you with ghostwriting.
If you’re a freelancer, 9-to-5 worker, or creative who likes to write…
