HOW TO SUCK
No, not that kinda "suck"
Apple.
Amazon.
Microsoft.
What do they all have in common?
Sure, they’re all companies…
And yeah, they make a lot of money.
But there’s actually one thing all three companies have in common.
And knowing this one thing can be the difference between:
Being in the top 1% of people making money online.
Or…
Blending in with 99% of people and barely scraping by.
Now, before I reveal what that one thing is, lemme tell ya a lil’ story.
8 years ago, my friend Nate introduced me to 2 little-known books:
1) Think and Grow Rich
2) Rich Dad Poor Dad
Maybe you heard of ‘em lol.
But reading those books changed my 18-year-old worldview.
I realized that I didn’t have to follow the traditional path of:
Getting a degree
Working an office job
Retiring at age 65
I realized I could carve my own path in life by building a business.
So…
Over the years that followed, I gave it a shot.
I tried…
Blogging
Web design
Amazon FBA
Flipping thrift store items on eBay
Fixing broken iPhones and flipping them
The result?
I failed at ALL of them.
I’d give one a shot for a few months, see little results, get discouraged, give up, and move onto the next thing.
I was stuck in a constant cycle of start, fail, give up.
It got to the point where I told myself I was just going to settle and become a high school teacher.
If I hadn’t figured something out by the time I got my degree, at least I’d have a job I would be comfortable doing.
Sure, I’d only make $30K a year, but at least I’d get summers off.
Yeah…
Fuck that.
Thankfully, September 2020, I stumbled across someone promoting a $40 course.
It showed people how to grow their Twitter following.
You probably can’t read my handwriting in my journal entry, but it says:
“Rehauled my twitter today. I bought a small course book on how to start a following. Bought it on a whim, but it’s an interesting endeavor I’m willing to invest $40 in. Practical points that I’m starting to apply. I’m curious to where it leads.”

I went through the course in a day and started posting content.
Now, you might think this was the one decision that changed the entire trajectory of my life…
But it wasn’t.
I tried many things in the past to try to make money.
However, the difference between this and those was one choice:
I chose to focus on this one thing, even if I didn’t see results for a long time.
I knew what was waiting for me if I didn’t make this work…
A future teaching angsty teenage kids and scraping by, paycheck to paycheck.
So, I started posting content every day.
…and I haven’t stopped since.
WTF does this have to do with Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft?
Sure, all the original CEOs of these companies dress like middle-aged white high school teachers…
But that’s not what I’m referring to.
The real thing they all have in common?
They all started narrow, then went wide.
Lemme explain…
Amazon focused on books, became great at that, then focused on other things.
Apple focused on computers, became great at that, then focused on other things.
Microsoft focused on computers, became great at that, then focused on other things.
But what do most beginners do?
1) They find one opportunity to make money
2) Do it for a bit
3) See little results
4) Get bored
5) Restart the process
Each time they hop to the next shiny object, they restart from 0.
And when they restart from 0, they continue to run on the never-ending treadmill until they burn out and give up.
THIS is why most people never make money online.
They don’t have the patience to suck at ONE thing for a reallllllly long time.
Instead, they suck at MANY things for a reallllllly short time.
(lol that sounds very inappropriate)
One leads to mastery, the other leads to misery.
Choose your suck.

Dakota “Sucks” Robertson
