Size doesn't matter, it's how you use it
It’s not about the size of your following, it’s how you use it.
At the start of your social media journey, you need to stand out.
You think content that appeals to everyone = More followers…
Right?
Nope.
At the start, it’s the opposite.
Lemme know if this sounds familiar…
You’re doing everything the social media growth gurus told you.
You’re creating content.
You’re commenting “love this!” on the 28th post of the day so you can get exposure to your profile.
We both know you don’t actually “love this!”
But sadly, a “viral” post for you is 11 likes and one comment from your Aunt Sally.
Why the f*ck are you not growing?
And more importantly…
Why are you not making Scarface amounts of money (minus the coke addiction)?
Well, my friend, I used to be in the same position.
I wasted hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars following the advice of people who didn’t know what they were doing.
But, with me being the hard-headed person I am, I eventually figured it out.
One of the most important lessons I learned after growing my clients and myself by 100s of thousands of followers on social media?
If you’re speaking to everybody, you’re speaking to nobody.
Think about it…
EVERYONE is making content for the masses.
Because of this, they’re all creating broad content.
Everyone sounds the same.
The result?
You get drowned out in a sea of content creators and don’t attract any followers or buyers.
So, you need to niche down to stand out.
Niche down = Get specific with what you talk about and who you talk to.
These are the 4 most important pieces you need to niche down and grow your social media:
Demographic (who you help)
Problem (pain you solve)
Topic (how you solve that pain)
Desired outcome (benefit of solving the problem)
I help [Demographic] overcome [Problem] with [Topic] so they can [Desired Outcome].
For example:
I help busy entrepreneurs overcome stress and burnout with mindfulness and time management practices so they can get back 15 hours of their time each week.
I’ll show you how to create all 4 pieces using ChatGPT.
1. Topic
Think of your social media as a tree.
At the start, you’re growing your tree trunk.
Tree trunk = Your following around a specific topic.
Once your following grows high enough, THEN you can branch off to more broad topics.
For example, my account first focused on writing, but once I grew to 50K+ followers, I branched out to marketing and business.
So how do you find what topic to focus on?
To grow on social media, you need to find a topic you have an interest in AND has market demand.

No interest = You won’t stay consistent.
No market demand = You won’t grow on social media.
When you have both, you have content market fit.
Content market fit = Growth.
Here’s how to use ChatGPT to simplify this process…
Step 1. List out your broad interests.
This can be business, fitness, writing, Icelandic tap dancing, or whatever else.
Step 2. Enter this ChatGPT prompt:
“These are all my interests:
[Insert Your Interests]
For each interest, list out potential topics I can talk about that I can sell a service or product around.
These topics should have market demand.
Things that make other people more money or improve their health.
Don’t include anything that doesn’t fit this criteria.”

ChatGPT will give you a bunch of options.
Pick a category that interests you the most and use this next ChatGPT prompt to give you more ideas:
“Give me a list of 25 more options for the [Topic] category.
Make the options more niched down.”

2. Demographic
Now that you have a topic, we need to find a demographic of people to speak to who are interested in the topic.
Pick one topic that interests you and use the following prompt:
“For [Insert Topic], give me a list of 50 potential demographics who would have market demand for this service.”

3. Problem
Perfect, so now we have a target demographic.
Now let’s find out their biggest pain points so we can create content that solves them and positions us as an authority.
We can do this by using this ChatGPT prompt:
“What are the most common and most painful problems for [Demographic] with [Topic]”

4. Desired Outcome
Knowing their pain points are great, but it’s even more powerful to know their desired outcomes too.
You can find some of them using this ChatGPT prompt:
“What are the most desirable outcomes for [Demographic] with [Topic]”

So, my friend, give this a go.
It won’t be an overnight fix, but I guarantee by targeting a more specific audience you’ll be on the right track to growing your following and building a powerful digital asset for years to come.
Eventually you’ll get to a place where you can talk about more broad topics and grow like crazy.
But for now, niche down.
Your Canadian friend,
Dakota “Niche Down” Robertson
P.S.
My flagship program, Growth Ghosts, is opening up January 2nd.
In it, I show you how to grow your personal brand and make money with it with ghostwriting.
This cohort will show you how to ghostwrite for social media and newsletters.
I’m limiting spots to 100 people.
Once they’re gone, they’re gone.
And no, I’m not going to do any of the fake scarcity tactics where I open spots up after they’re sold out.
