The sexy woman in the red dress
Looks can kill
She’s everywhere.
In your DMs.
In your comments.
Inviting you out on the weekends.
She’s trying to steal your attention.
Yours and mine.
Now, I wish I was talking about some 10/10 blonde (95% of mine consist of 20 y/o dudes), but the woman I’m referring to isn’t… well… a woman.
It’s distraction.
In the movie, The Matrix, there’s a scene where the main character, Neo, is having an important conversation with his mentor, Morpheus. While walking along the street, a beautiful woman in a red dress passes him.

He diverts his attention away from Morpheus to check her out.
The moment he looks back, there’s a gun to his head.
He took his attention off what was important.
And this relates to life as a creator/business owner.
Every day, you and I are having our focus pulled in all different directions.
5 seconds TikToks, checking the likes on our latest post, or the shiny new opportunities to make money.
The quick dopamine hit is the sexy woman in the red dress.
And the more I’ve grown on social media, the more I’ve realized focus is the key to success.
The best way I can put it is that focus is like watering your garden. You can pour your water (focus) on an area and have it grow fruit. Or you can pour it on an area and have it grow roots.
And if you don’t pour enough on any area, then you’ll grow nothing at all.
Where your focus flows determines where your life goes (damn, that’s a tweet).
Maybe right now you’re starting out with the online space. Or perhaps you’re a seasoned veteran in the business game.
Regardless, the distractions show up in different forms:
Partying
Notifications
Low ROI activities
And as of late, I’ve had to remind myself of the importance of saying “no.”
I’m grateful to be in the position that many people want to work together. And I find myself wanting to take everyone on. I mean, more clients mean more money, right?
But that’s short-term thinking.
For context, right now I’m working on launching a new offer.
Coaching ghostwriters how to scale to $10,000-$50,000 a month.
I know it’s more scalable than what I’m doing now and the work would be much more fulfilling.
So sure, it’d be nice to take on more clients for my ghostwriting agency and make 10s of thousands more. But that would mean more time/resources/focus dedicated to delivering for those clients.
But I’m reminding myself to prioritize the long-term goal.
I encourage you to do the same.
Take a few minutes after this email and list out your ONE main priority.
What’s the one activity you need to focus on over the next 6 months?
Now, what are the lesser priorities taking away from that goal?
Constant texts? Turn your phone on ‘Do Not Disturb’ 24/7.
Social media? Get an app blocker like Cold Turkey or Freedom.
New money-making opportunities? Write down your big goal over the next 6 months and read it every day.
Dedicate the first 4-6 hours of the morning or the last 4-6 hours of every night to working toward it.
I guarantee you will change your life by the end of those 6 months if you dedicate yourself to this routine.
That’s all I got for y’all today though.
Apologies for the late email. The woman in the red dress has been distracting me lately hahah.
Happy Thursday.
Your Canadian friend,
Dakota “Rockin’ a Red Dress” Robertson

Alex Hormozi made a great video on this topic that inspired this email.
