Reading = Scam
I used to be addicted to jerking off…my ego.
A mental masturbator some might say.
Every day, I’d read 10-30 pages from a book and feel accomplished.
But in reality?
I never made a single dollar in my first 10 months of posting content daily because I kept telling myself:
“I’ll read one more book, then I’ll be ready to reach out to build my business.”
But at the end of each book I read, I told myself, “Just 1 more book and I’ll be ready.”
Sure, it looked cool to have a stack of books on my wall that made me look smart...
But I hadn’t learned shit.
And in all honesty…
The reason I hopped from book to book was because I was scared.
Scared that I would have to face the reality of doing hard things and failing.
Building a business
Reaching out to clients
Hopping on sales calls
But the moment my trajectory changed was the summer of 2021.
I made my biggest financial purchase ever:
I invested in my first mentor.
And today, 3 years later, I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions I ever made.
Because I was no longer only accountable to myself, but also to somebody I respected.
Knowing that I had someone on the other side who’d hold me accountable made me get my ass in gear.
And after a few months of taking action, lo and behold, I started to see results.
I landed a $3K/month client, then a $5K/month client, then another $3K/month client with ghostwriting.
So, I just wanted to quickly level with ya…
I know it feels good to read a book a week so you can look super sophisticated with your stack of books in the background of your Zoom calls.
But the reality?
At a certain point reading becomes a form of procrastination.
Now, I’m not saying you have to go out and find your version of Gandalf to mentor you.
But recognize that a lot of “self-education” is a big circle jerk of self-congratulations like it’s a LinkedIn post.
Because the dumb person who takes action will always get farther ahead than the giga genius who sits around consuming information all the time.
You need to apply the lesson from 1 chapter, not read anther book.
