I spent $1,010 on 1 dinner lol

There are 2 things you should know about me:

  1. I LOVE food (I used to be a fat kid).

  2. I love the movie Inception (shout out to Hans Zimmer for the banger soundtrack).

So when I asked the almighty ChatGPT what I should do when I go to Chicago, this answered piqued my interest:

Curious, I googled the 3 Michelin star restaurant.

I saw it’s been ranked the #1 restaurant in America (and one of the top 50 restaurants in the world).

So I said screw it and booked a reservation for my friend and I.

The total?

$1,010 annnnnnd 75 cents.

Now, I’m weird and like to validate my purchases after I buy (love me some confirmation bias)…

So I checked out some videos of the head chef, Grant Achatz.

And he said something interesting that I wanted to share with y’all…

What Do Cooking and Content Have In Common?

When asked about how Chef Achatz comes up with his unique dishes, he said he gets them from ordinary moments in life.

For example:

He has a famous “Messy Table” dessert where the dish is prepared on the tablecloth of your table.

No plates.

Just sauce and ice cream everywhere.

(I’m getting diabetes just looking at this):

Real picture of the famous “Messy Dessert”

His inspiration for the dish?

It came from an ordinary day while making cookies with his kids.

Ingredients were everywhere on the kitchen counter.

But where most people would see a big mess to clean up…

Chef Achatz saw art in the ordinary.

What Separates Average Creators From Great Ones

Most creators think they need groundbreaking ideas to go viral.

And sure, those work.

But what really builds a deep connection with your audience?

Seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary.

The everyday relatable moments you experience.

While everyone else is looking for the next big trend, the best creators are mining their daily experiences for gold.

That awkward conversation with your barista?

That's a story about human connection.

The frustration you felt when your Wi-Fi crashed during an important call?

That's content about resilience and backup plans.

The random conversation with your Uber driver?

That's a lesson about perspectives and life wisdom.

The best ideas aren't hiding in some secret vault.

They're sitting right in front of you.

  • In your failures.

  • In your morning routine.

  • In your random observations.

  • In your everyday conversations.

The problem isn't that you don't have enough experiences.

The problem is you're not paying attention to them.

My Challenge To You

Carry a notes app with you everywhere.

When something makes you laugh, cringe, or think "that's interesting," write it down.

Within 7 days, you'll have more content ideas than you know what to do with.

Because here's the truth:

  • Your ordinary Tuesday is someone else's breakthrough insight.

  • Your random shower thought is someone else's "aha" moment.

  • Your daily struggle is someone else's roadmap out of their problem.

Stop looking for extraordinary ideas.

Start finding the extraordinary in your ordinary.

Your audience will thank you.

And who knows?

Maybe one day you'll be charging $505.37 per person for the privilege of experiencing your unique perspective.

Your Canadian friend,

Dakota “Former Fat Kid” Robertson

P.S.

Paying $1K for a dinner woulda seemed ridiculous to me a few years ago.

But I built a ghostwriting business that gives me the freedom to do stuff like this ‘just because.’

(Picture of my last ghostwriting invoice below).

So if you’re tired of charging ramen noodle prices and want to charge caviar prices?
