I got laid off.

My do or die moment

I got laid off from my security guard job in 2021.

  • I was never late.

  • I always followed instructions.

  • I never jerked off in the company truck (or was never caught, at least).

But on one of my days off, my manager calls:

"The company is rolling out budget cuts and we have too much staff. I’m sorry, but we're letting you go."

It wasn’t personal. Just profits.

But that moment changed everything.

I realized no matter how good you are at your job…

You’re still just another number on a spreadsheet.

Your job security is as fake as the Kardashian family’s boobs.

Because there’s always some external bullshit waiting to sweep the rug out:

  • AI.

  • Recessions.

  • Budget cuts.

  • Your boss having a bad day and using you as a human sacrifice.

My Do Or Die Moment

I only took that security job so I could build my online business during the night shift.

But getting laid off lit a whole new fire under my ass.

I only had 5 months of savings in my bank, so for the next 4 months, I put 420% effort into building my ghostwriting biz.

  • I posted 5 times a day on Twitter.

  • I created my ghostwriting offer.

  • I did free work for a testimonial.

  • I reached out to clients.

  • I built my website.

And by the end of those 4 months?

I landed my first $3K/month ghostwriting client.

2 weeks later?

Another $5K/month ghostwriting client.

1 week after that?

Another $3K/month ghostwriting client.

For my first year in online biz, I pretty much made $0.

But after getting laid off? Hit my first $11K/month.

The Worst Drug Out There

I lost my mother and father to fentanyl-laced crack overdoses.

But I can tell you from experience, there’s a far more deadly drug out there:

Comfort.

There are hundreds of millions of people who work a job they dislike.

Live a life that lacks true location, time, and financial freedom.

They’re not happy…

Instead, they’re stuck in what I call “The Middle.”

Not in enough pain to make a change…

But just comfortable enough to stay stuck.

So they wait…

…and wait.

Until one day they look up and they’re 47, two kids deep, in a job they hate, still telling themselves, “Maybe next year.”

Comfort is far more deadly because you’re dying is slow motion and don’t even realize it.

I’m telling you this because I’ve been there.

I know what it’s like to feel replaceable.

To feel like building your own thing is this far-off fantasy that only works for other people.

But it’s not.

You just haven’t hit your “do or die” moment yet.

So if you’re reading this and life hasn’t slapped you in the face yet?

Slap yourself.

Because the longer you wait, the harder it gets.

And the more likely you are to become one of those people who say…

“I could’ve done something great.”

P.S.

Andrew Wood got laid off from his software job within a few weeks of joining Growth Ghost.

In few months, he landed his first client for $3K/month.
