He wants to eat your baby
The scent of butter and salty popcorn filled the darkly lit theatre.
It was Friday night when my friends and I went to see the new Fantastic 4 movie.
To be honest, I’m not a fan of Marvel movies, especially Fantastic 4 (except Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man trilogy).
But I’ll make any excuse to eat some salty movie theatre popcorn cause I’m a fatty.
And to be honest, the movie was pretty cookie-cutter.
But there was one part that stood out to me…
The Baby-Eating Space God
See, there's this baby in the movie named Franklin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fantastic.
The kid's still in his momma’s womb, but he's got cosmic powers that can reshape reality.
Enter the big bad guy of the film, Galactus.
A space god the size of a skyscraper who eats planets for breakfast.
This dude shows up at Earth's doorstep with an offer:
"Lemme eat yo baby, and I'll spare your world."
Even though this was the typical superhero plot setup, it hit me how this mirrors what we tell ourselves every day.
See, we're all kinda like Franklin Richards.
We have the potential to be great, but many sacrifice it to the Galactus’ of our world:
Our family’s doubts.
Our friends’ criticisms.
Our self-limiting beliefs.
What If You Keep Playing It Safe?
The thing is, most people hand over their potential without a fight.
They think, "At least I'll have job security."
But here's the truth no one wants to admit...
What if you're 55, sitting in the same cubicle, watching your coworkers get laid off because the company "restructured"?
What if your kids ask why you never pursued your dreams?
What if you realize you spent 20 years building someone else's empire while your own potential rotted away?
Two years ago, I was that guy making excuses.
"I'll start my business next year when I have more savings."
"I need to learn more before I can charge real money."
"What if I fail and embarrass myself?"
Every day I chose safety over potential.
Every day I fed my dreams to my “Galactus.”
The Real Plot Twist
But here's where the movie got it right and life gets it wrong:
In the film, Mr. Fantastic tells Galactus to go eat a bag of dicks.
He fights for his kid's potential instead of trading it away for false promises.
Most people do the opposite.
They think their 9-to-5 is protecting them when it's actually the thing devouring their future.
I kept telling myself I wasn't ready to start ghostwriting because I didn't have enough experience.
It wasn’t until I got fed up with being in the same spot as previous years that I made a change.
I dropped outta college.
I quit my job at Domino’s.
I took a bet on my future potential.
Did I suck at the start? 100%.
But I gave myself a year and kept at it.
Within 1 year, I hit my first $11K/month.
A few months later, hit $30K/month.
A few weeks later, hit $50K/month and was traveling the world.
The unexpected part?
It wasn't the money that changed me.
It was proving to myself that I didn't have to sacrifice my potential for false security.
Sure, some days are harder than my old job.
But I'd rather struggle to build my future than build someone else's.
The Choice Is Yours
Look, I'm not gonna sugarcoat it.
You can keep telling yourself you're not ready.
You can keep believing that your 9-to-5 is "safe."
You can keep feeding your potential to whatever Galactus is whispering in your ear.
Or you can do what Mr. Fantastic did and fight for what's yours.
Your choice.
