He called me out for being a fraud

Yesterday, I got this gem of a comment on my post:

Passive aggressive? Check.
Fair criticism? Also check.

The online business space is filled with coaches coaching coaches who coach coaches.

(Yes, that sentence just gave me brain damage too.)

But it brings up a great question…

“If Ghostwriting Is So Lucrative, Why Coach Instead Of Doing It?”

When I first launched my coaching program in 2023, I was:

  • Writing for 6 ghostwriting clients.

  • Helping 42 coaching clients.

  • About 1 notification away from committing a felony.

I worked all day, every day, and was stressed tf out.

So in July of 2023, I had 2 options:

  1. Try to maintain my work load (and likely do a bad job fulfilling for everyone).

  2. Let clients go.

Now, here’s what most people don’t know about me…

I was 2 years into college to become an English and Psychology teacher before I got into online biz.

You know how much teachers make?

Almost the same as a McDonald’s manager.

But I was passionate about writing, psychology, and helping people have those “Aha” moments.

So when the moment came in 2023 to make a choice between ghostwriting and coaching?

I followed what I loved: teaching.

And I handed off my ghostwriting clients to my good friend Joey.

But it didn’t take long before I ran into a problem…

I Felt Like a Fraud

  • Despite helping people scale to $10K-$91K months with ghostwriting.

  • Despite helping people quit the careers they hated.

  • Despite helping people live a life of freedom.

I still felt like a fat personal trainer.

Someone who didn’t practice what they preach.

“How can I teach ghostwriting when I’m not even ghostwriting?”

That voice in my head was louder than a toddler on a sugar high.

So in 2024, I only ran 1 cohort.

My revenue dropped 75%.

All because I let imposter syndrome get to me.

The Day It All Changed…

In August of last year, I was on a call with my best friends, Taylin and Dale.

They were also my first coaching clients who scaled their ghostwriting biz to $50K-$70K months.

Somewhere in the middle of our convo, we realized:

  • We had the blueprint to scaling a ghostwriting business.

  • I had the proven track record from coaching clients.

So why the hell didn’t we just work together and do both?

It was a win/win:

  • They’d help scale my coaching program.

  • I’d help scale their ghostwriting agency.

  • We’d be able to help change more lives (and make more money, I’m not gonna pretend I’m totally selfless lol).

So that night, we started building the new version of Growth Ghost from scratch.

Fake Gurus

So when I get comments like this, I get it:

  • Most coaches lie about running the businesses they coach.

  • They teach outdated strategies that worked 4 years ago, not today.

  • They flaunt the revenue from coaching, pretending it’s from the business they teach.

But when they’re directed to me?

I don’t mind because I know the stuff we’re teaching is straight from the trenches.

Much love, mofos.

Today I had Jason Fox give a masterclass in Growth Ghost on how to land clients with DMs.

An immaculate amount of sauce was spilled.
