Copywriting vs. Ghostwriting

Which is the best business model in 2025?

2 of the most common questions I get:

1) “Dakota, how do you have such sexy eyebrows?”

2) “Which is a better business model, copywriting or ghostwriting?”

Unfortunately, the answer to #1 is a secret…

But I can answer question 2.

For those of you who don’t know, copywriting and ghostwriting are almost the same thing.

But there’s one key difference…

And understanding this is the difference between charging $150 and $3,000 per client.

The Problem With Copywriting…

Back in 2021, I landed my first copywriting client.

FINALLY, all those months of grinding and studying paid off.

Yeah…it paid off $150 for a 2 week project lol.

But a few months later, I pivoted to social media ghostwriting and landed my first paid client for $3,000 a month.

Same skill, different outcome.

But why?

Well, it all comes down to positioning.

Copywriting is one of the most popular businesses in the world.

But high popularity = High competition.

Add when there’s high competition in a market?

Well, unless you’re in the top 5% in the world, there’s really only 1 thing you can compete on:

Price.

Now, idk about you, but I prefer to charge a lotta dolla dolla bills for my services. I’m not interested in competing to a race to the bottom.

Just look on Fiverr or Upwork and you’ll see 1,000s of people charging $20-$100 per project as a copywriter.

Hell, that isn’t even the worst part…

Most copywriting projects are one-offs.

Which means you’re CONSTANTLY looking for new clients.

You’ll be sending 100s (if not 1,000s) of DMs in hopes of getting a response.

And even if you do get a response? The prospect will likely compare your prices with the 1,000s of others.

Why The Smart Writers Are Becoming Ghostwriters

As social media continues to explode in growth, so will the businesses that rely on it for their growth.

Just look at people like:

  • Gary V.

  • Dan Koe.

  • Iman Gadzhi.

  • Alex Hormozi.

  • Grant Cardone.

People and businesses like these all want more followers, sales, and opportunities that come from social media…

But they don’t have the:

  • Time.

  • Desire.

  • Knowledge.

To grow their own social media.

That’s where social media ghostwriters come in.

All a ghostwriter does?

  1. Interview their client about their life and expertise.

  2. Upload the transcript of the interview to an AI software.

  3. Use content and AI frameworks to write content in their client’s voice.

  4. Schedule and post content.

(A Growth Ghost member’s results from such frameworks)

And unlike copywriting…

Ghostwriting is a newer industry with low competition and high demand.

Which means ghostwriters can…

  • Land clients easier.

  • Charge higher rates.

  • Keep clients for longer.

So, my recommendation?

Learn copywriting → Sell ghostwriting.

As social media grows, so will demand for ghostwriters.

The writers who make the most money are those who adapt to the changing environment.

And now with AI?

Ghostwriting has never been easier and more profitable.
