Building a business while working a job?
I asked my audience what their biggest questions were about ghostwriting, and one of the top questions was this…
“How do you build a $10,000 per month online ghostwriting business while working a job?”
Now, I totally understand WHY someone would ask this question…
But if I’m being honest, this question by itself is why most people never see any results.
One thing I’ve learned over time is that the quality of results we’re seeing in our life…
Is directly linked to the quality of questions we’re asking…
And to be blunt, “how do i do this while working a full time job” is a pretty low-level question.
The truth is, you make time for what’s important to you.
After coaching 117+ people on how to start and scale their ghostwriting business, I can confidently say, if you want it badly enough you will make time for it.
One of the members of my program, Clifton, started out while working a full-time sales job with 2 kids and he got to $20,000 a month within a couple months.
After quitting his job?
Today, he’s doing around $80,000 a month.

Now, Clifton is an amazing guy, but it’s not because he’s a giga-brain genius with an IQ of 169…
It’s because Clifton made this work with his schedule because his business was his main priority.
In order for something to be a priority, that means other things have to take the back seat…
Time with friends…
Dopamine scrolling on TikTok…
Binge watching YouTube videos…
All of that had to go.
When Clifton focused all of his time and energy on Ghostwriting, it made seeing results incredibly easy.
So how can you do the same?
Well, you need to audit your time.
Think about it…
There are 168 hours in a week.
And between:
A 45-hour a week job
8 hours of sleep per night
3 hours per night of leisure time
2 hours a day for eating + commuting
That leaves you with 32 hours a week to build an online business.
Now, you and I aren’t perfect, so let’s even knock off 8 hours and say you have 24 hours a week to work on building your business.
That’s 24 hours a week you can invest in building your business.
How are you spending that time?
What are you doing with it?
Are you doom scrolling on your phone?
Going out and drinking every weekend?
Maybe watching the Grand Theft Auto 6 reveal trailer on repeat too many times?
Or…
Are you writing content?
Studying the people who are in the position you want to be in?
Maybe skipping Netflix to read instead?
One path keeps you stuck in your job…
The other path takes you to a place where you have true freedom and control over your finances.
You make the decision which path you want to go down.
Now, as you can see HOW you spend your time is important…
If you’re trying to practice ghostwriting, but using outdated information, you’re actually getting worse.
If you’re reaching out to clients, but not doing it the right way, you’re actually wasting your time.
If you’re trying to grow an audience, but aren’t doing it the right way, you’re actually hurting your brand.
So I want to send out some emails this week showing you how to do these things…
But I just really wanted to level with you…
Working a 9-5 is not a valid excuse for not being able to make ghostwriting work for you.
Plenty of my cohort members have figured it out…
You can too, you just need to make this a priority and stop wasting your time.
It really can be that simple if you choose.
Okay, so that’s all I got for you today boys and girls…
I’ll be back in my next email to provide a tremendous amount of value showing you HOW to properly use that time.
Your Canadian friend,
Dakota “Make Time” Robertson
