1 weird way I 5x'd my income in 5 months...

Few people talk about this

What I did seemed crazy to many people.

“Why would you do something like that?”

“You better be careful!”

“Are you stupid?” (Yes, my grandma actually said that lol).

People told me this because 5 months ago, I left Canada with a backpack and suitcase to move to Texas.

Why?

To live with 2 people I met from the bird app, Twitter.

Dan Koe and Devan King.

And it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

But again, you may wonder “Why?”

Well, put simply, I’m a big believer in who you surround yourself influences your life almost more than anything else.

When my friend group was a bunch of athletes, I worked out a lot.

When my friend group was a bunch of partiers, I drank a lot.

And as the saying goes, “You’re the average of the five people spend the most time with.” - Jim Rohn

This is what I want to instill in you…

Take a minute to think about who you surround yourself the most.

Are they aligned with your goals?

Do you feel energized around them?

Or do they criticize everything you do and make you feel drained?

These were the questions I faced because I’m the black sheep back home.

80% of my life consists of:

• Going to the gym

• Running my business

• Creating content for social media

If you’re reading this, you probably relate, but few other people do.

Most people in their 20s focus on partying all the time, going to college, or working their job. And there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s just not for me.

So when I had the opportunity to live with 2 people who could relate to my lifestyle, I took it.

Dan Koe is someone I highly respect and in a similar position I want to be in life. I knew surrounding myself around him would speed up my growth exponentially.

And after spending 5 months together, I can confirm, it did.

You see, when you’re around people with similar goals and lifestyle, you’re not afraid to talk about what your ideas. You’re not looked at crazy or met with confusion. Your friends actively listen and contribute to your life.

Suddenly, you’re not questioning yourself anymore.

You carry a new confidence.

Your fuckups become funny and just another story to tell your friends. You all start adopting each others’ positive habits and mindsets. You catch each other when you doubt yourselves.

It’s a synergistic effect.

Because of this, in the 5 months I lived with Dan and Devan, I:

• 5x’d my income

• Cleaned up my eating habits

• Started walking 10K+ steps/day

• 6x’d my social media following

This is what I want for you. You probably don’t have the same goals as me, but the underlying principle is the same.

Limit your time with the people who drain you. Spend more time with the people who are aligned with you.

You don’t have to move in with them, just start associating with them more.

If you don’t know any, reach out on Twitter or Instagram. Start making connections. Hop on calls together every week.

Talk about what you’re working on. What you’re struggling with. Hold each other accountable.

Just talking with people who are on the same trajectory is enough to change your life.

I encourage you to reach out to 5 people today (not tomorrow or next week), whether that be people in your personal life or online, and start a conversation. Make it a habit. Sure, some might lead nowhere, but all it takes is one friendship to change your life.

You never know what it’ll lead to.

Your Canadian friend,

Dakota “All my friends are from the internet” Robertson
