$0 to $11K/month in 28 days (my #1 mistake)

The rejection hit my DMs on a Tuesday morning.

I was sipping my overpriced $5 black coffee at my favorite cafe.

The DM glowed on my cracked phone screen: "Really appreciate the call Dakota, but right now I’m looking for something different. Best of luck!"

Another potential client…

Another "no."

At the time, I thought my service had to be fancy.

I offered to build people’s website, write the copy for it, and get traffic to it by ghostwriting their social media content.

Why I Thought I Was Worth $0

I kept telling myself the same bullsh*t story:

"Who am I to charge thousands of dollars? I haven’t worked with paying clients. Hell, I don’t even know how to use a damn semicolon."

(I still don’t.)

Every voice in my head screamed: "You're not good enough."

But my options were running out as fast as my savings.

I could either keep making excuses or grab my balls and keep trying.

I was terrified at the thought of going back to a job I hated.

My fear of regret was stronger than my fear of failure.

My #1 Mistake That Cost Me Clients

The biggest mistake I made when trying to land clients:

Focusing on what I offered (me), not what the prospect wanted (them).

So I looked at the patterns from all my rejections and noticed 3 big patterns:

1. People just wanted ghostwriting, not copywriting and websites.

2. Most prospects were founders and coaches.

3. Their biggest concern was paying money but not getting results.

So, I went back to the drawing board.

I talked to my mentor and gave $100M Offers another read.

Instead of offering my service to everyone?

I targeted founders and coaches.

Instead of offering multiple services (copywriting, website, and ghostwriting)?

I simplified it to only ghostwriting.

Instead of hoping prospects would take a chance on me?

I eliminated risk by offering a guarantee.

This made my offer:

• 10x more relevant.

• 10x simpler to understand.

• 10x easier to say “yes” to.

So with my new offer, I went back on the hunt for clients.

My Life Changed In 28 Days

Within 1 month, something crazy happened:

• I landed my 1st ghostwriting client for $3K a month.

• Then my 2nd client for $5K a month.

• Then my 3rd client for another $3K.

Even though my grammar sucked, I didn't have a portfolio, and felt like a fraud.

But I realized something that changed my entire mindset:

I had the right ambition…I was just following the wrong roadmap.

With just a few tweaks, I went from $0 to $11K/month in 28 days.
