I was in the middle of the desert for 3 days

113,000+ steps.

520,000+ people.

Countless questionable decisions.

This was my past weekend in the middle of the desert at the music festival EDC Las Vegas.

And as I write this newsletter with my last few remaining brain cells, I’m on a 9-hour flight back to London.

Overall, the experience was great.

It’s been filled with many unforgettable stories (and some forgettable ones).

But one of which that stands out as I write this…

Last Thursday, I was talking to a mutual friend we met up with at the club.

I was explaining what I do for a living and some of the stories from my travels around the world.

And because what I was talking about was relevant to them and what they wanted to do, the person was super engaged and kept asking questions.

And it got me thinking…

Getting people to engage in person isn’t really that different from getting people to engage with you online.

To make people interested in you?

You must first live an interesting life.

Because let’s face it…

Anyone can make the “7 tips…” or “How to do XYZ…” type of content.

If that’s the only content you can make, people will get bored of you real quick.

What really makes you stand out is who you are and the stories you tell.

And truthfully?

Most people are boring as fuck.

  • They consume book after book

  • They stay in all day working on their business

  • They binge-watch Alex Hormozi YouTube videos

Sure, logically, it’s productive…

But you become emotionally hard to relate to with when you don’t have stories people connect with.

Now, I’m not saying to go out and party in the desert for 3 days with a buncha half-naked strangers.

But I am encouraging you to get out of your comfort zone more.

  • Talk to that stranger

  • Book that plane ticket

  • Take up that new hobby

Because when you incorporate the lessons from those stories into your personal brand?

Not only will you grow your social media and business a LOT faster…

But people will aspire to be like you and connect with you on a whole new level.

And you’ll have a helluva lot more fun in the process ;)

Your Canadian friend,

Dakota “Only 4.5 Hours Left On This Plane” Robertson
