Why I got drunk and booked a ticket to Dubai
A story on taking "risks"
“You won’t do it.” Liam challenged me.
I stared at the $2200 plane ticket on my phone, laughing at the situation.
Just 2 hours earlier I was at the cafe doing some work.
Now here I was, at the bar 5 drinks in and contemplating flying to other side of the world.
My friend, Liam was with me at the bar. He was moving his residency to Dubai for tax reasons in a couple weeks.
Again, he challenged me…
“Just book it, don’t be a pussy.”
Now, I pride myself on my non-pussy tendencies, but I admit, I hesitated.
Truthfully, I didn’t wanna spend $2200 or spend 24 hours traveling.
But…
I thought of the upside.
What experiences would I have that would make for great stories and memories down the line?
Would I meet new people and develop a life-changing friendship?
But, most notably, I thought about how much could I advance by surrounding myself with like-minded people for 26 days.
For context, I’ll be launching a new offer soon, and it requires me to get focused.
And honestly, I’m a little nervous and excited.
I haven’t done something like this before and it’s completely new to me.
But, I thought back to March of 2022, when I was living with Dan Koe and JK Molina.
Those 5 months that followed were some of the best memories of my life. And largest periods of growth personally and professionally. When you’re surrounded by ambitious friends, it gives you an indescribable energy.
• You come up with better ideas
• Your failures affect you less
• You’re in a better mood
So, I said “screw it” and booked the ticket.
And 5 days into my trip to Dubai, I can tell ya, this is still the case.
So, for those of you wanting to get ahead in life, surround yourself around others who are ambitious.
Even if you can’t meet up physically, do it over Zoom calls. Reach out to people on Twitter you vibe with and set up a call.
Build each other up.
Learn from one another.
And have fun in the process.
When you do, you’ll get 10 years ahead within 1.
I promise you.

Dakota “In Dubai” Robertson.
