I had $550,000 in crypto but wish I invested in this:

I used to be obsessed with crypto.

Back in 2018, I thought it was my golden ticket to becoming financially free.

I was 20 at the time, working 12 hour days, 7 days a week in the middle of nowhere as an industrial electrician.

Eat, sleep, work, repeat.

I fucking hated it.

But I was making decent money and I viewed it as an opportunity that wouldn’t last long.

So, every paycheck I got, I dumped it all into crypto. I had an unshakable belief this was my ticket to freedom

• Freedom from working mind-numbing jobs.

• Freedom to live wherever I wanted in the world.

• Freedom to do fulfilling work I wanted to do, not needed.

Within 3 months, I put my life savings of $40,000 into magic internet money + any ongoing paychecks.

Friends and family thought I was an idiot.

“Just wait until they see the crypto market explode. Then they’ll understand.” I thought to myself

Well…the crypto market exploded alright.

From 2018 to 2020, I saw my investments go all the way down to negative 90%.

I avoided talking about crypto around friends and family because I didn’t feel like getting ridiculed.

But, I still had the unshakable belief in what was to come, so I kept throwing all my money into it.

And a few months later, in November of 2020, all those years of waiting finally paid off.

I saw my investments shoot up by hundreds of percent to $140,000.

The year that followed, shot up thousands of percent to $550,000.

And truthfully, when I saw those numbers, I didn’t feel much.

Maybe I’m crazy, but I was in crypto to make millions, not a couple hundred thousand.

Anything less? I didn’t care.

So I took some profits, but kept a good chunk of it in the market. Knowing it could go down, but also knowing it could go a lot higher.

Long story short, my portfolio dropped dramatically in the year after that.

If I was the same person I was a few years ago, I would’ve been devastated.

I would have seen my happy future be wiped away with the crypto market.

But I didn’t really care.

Because from December 2020, I went all in on my business journey.

Instead of letting an uncontrollable force like the crypto market determine my future, I took control of my life.

I invested in courses, coaching, and books to educate myself on writing, marketing, and social media growth.

It was a grind, but because I was building my knowledge and experience in the business space, I knew my ticket to freedom was just a matter of time rather than a matter of hope.

In December of 2021, after months of procrastinating of starting my ghostwriting business, I hit $11,000/month

In 2022, I made $230,000.

In 2023, I’m on track to hit $1,350,000+.

As my skills compounded, so did my income.

I don’t have any regrets, but it’s interesting to think where I’d be if I would had invested into my skillset from the start.

Instead of 3 years of waiting for crypto to boom, I could have compounded my skills and income to $100K/month

I can only imagine how much would have been made if I invested in crypto during that downtime.

But, my point is, the #1 thing you should focus on in life is the stuff you can control.

Because everything can go to zero tomorrow.

Crypto can crash.

Real estate can crash.

The stock market can crash.

But the one thing that can’t be taken from you is your skillset and knowledge.

If I wanted to quit ghostwriting and get into email marketing, I could do it because I took the time to learn to writing and marketing.

If I wanted to quit Twitter, IG, and LinkedIn to grow on some new platform, I could do that because I took the time to understand how social media works.

Focus on what you can control and you’ll become adaptive.

Focus on what you can’t control and you’ll become reactive.
