3:15am and burnt out
Late night email on this one.
Yesterday I was up til' 3:15am banging out a buncha work for an upcoming launch, content, and other stuff I got planned.
Right now I'm running on about 4 hours sleep.
I'm exhausted.
I'm burnt out.
I don't feel like writing.
All I wanna do is sleep in my warm bed.
But you know what?
I haven't missed a weekly newsletter since I started over a year ago, and I don't plan on missing today.
In the 3 years I've been creating content and growing my business, that's the sole reason I've seen decent progress.
I'm not even exaggerating, most people never grow a following or make money because they're inconsistent.
"I'll post when I feel inspired."
"I need to wait til' I feel ready to do [insert whatever]."
NO, MOTHERF*%ER.
You just gotta do the thing.
Because the moment you give yourself permission to miss posting once, it becomes 100x easier to let the next time slide.
Then the next.
Next thing you know you're washed up like John Travolta and left wondering why you're not seeing results after you've been doing the thing for years.
The real compounding happens when you've been doing the thing for years, *consistently.*
So, from now on, I want you to make a rule for yourself.
What's 1 thing in your life you want to be consistent with?
Writing?
Exercise?
Meditation?
Ancient shamanic pelvic nut thrusts? (I'm not here to judge)
From now on, I want you to burn the idea into your brain...
"If I don't do [thing], my head explodes."
Poof. Splat. Boom.
Brain matter everywhere.
This is the exact mindset I've had since I started posting on Twitter on September 24th, 2020.
1,050 days ago.
I have not missed a single day since then.
Some days, I literally only posted one tweet saying "yes."
But I still posted.
You don't need to be perfect, but you do need reinforce the habit of showing up.
Or maybe you don't feel like going to the gym.
Get in your workout clothes, show up to the gym, and if you still feel like exercising when you walk in the door, let yourself go home.
I guarantee you, with anything in life (k maybe not everything) the hardest part is overcoming the resistance of showing up.
After that, you have momentum and everything else becomes easier.
Kinda like this email.
I told myself I was only going to write a few lines, but here I am in my writing flow. And I feel 10x better than I did when I started.
So, my friend, make it a rule to not let your head explode.
Much love and have a good night.
Your Canadian friend,
Dakota "In-tact Head" Robertson
